The ones who are there follows a dinner to reunite between friends and jumps back and forth between times before and after the pandemic. The play examines the joint trauma that the world suffered together during Covid, coming of age, and the role of face-to-face communication in a digital age.
Derivatives Empire
This dramatic work follows a commodities trading firm, Derivatives Empire, through three separate acts. It starts with the founding of the company in the 1800s and the breakup of the founders. This is followed by a look at the dynamics of the firm in the golden age of commodity firms in the mid-twentieth century. The play ends with an examination of the modern iteration of the firm in a financialized commodity market focused on power. The first act of this play takes place over several years in the late 19th century. The second act takes place in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The final act takes place in the early 2000s. Like the history of commodity markets, it evolves from a focus on agricultural to a look at metals and oil and finishes with a consideration of the modern heavily regulated electrical and energy market.
Worse than Stuxnet
The drama follows a cyberattack that goes drastically wrong the geopolitical consequences. It focuses on the role of coders in warfighting and the role of organizational seams in creating crisis. The play is similar to an international affairs simulation and emulates Dr. Strangelove for the digital age.
